Belgium

The Kingdom of Belgium is a country in Western Europe. Furthermore, it is one of the six founding countries of the European Union. European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Council as well as European Parliament are in the country’s capital, Brussels.

THE GRAND PLACE, BRUSSELS
Also called Grand Square or Grand Markt is the central square of Brussels. It is surrounded by guildhalls, two larger edifices, the city’s Town Hall, and the King’s House. Furthermore, the King’s house building is containing the Museum of the City of Brussels. The Grand Place is the most important tourist destination. It is also considered as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.
GRAVENSTEEN, GHENT

The Gravensteen is a medieval castle at Ghent, East Flanders. It was the residence of the Counts of Flanders until 1353. Furthermore, it was subsequently repurposed as a court, prison and even as a mint and cotton factory.

ATOMIUM

The Atomium is a landmark building in Brussels. Furthermore, it was originally constructed for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. Now, it is a museum. It was designed by the engineer Andre Waterkeyn and also, architects Andre and Jean Polak. Even more, it is 102 m tall.

MANNEKEN PIS

This is a small bronze sculpture, that is only 61 cm tall. The sculpture is a small naked boy urinating into a fountain’s basin. The statue was designed by Hieronymus Duquesnoy the Elder and was put in place in 1618 or 1619. Furthermore, the original piece is currently kept in the Museum of the City of Brussels. The current statue above the fountain is a copy from 1965.
